Who Keeps the Lights Bright on Patrick?

Have you ever wondered who takes care of the lights
at the Weinberg Center For The Arts?
Who gets on the ladder to change the marquees?
It would be Greg Davis.
He is the technical manager,
in charge of the lighting, sound, and technical staffing.

Greg Davis

Next time you see him up on his ladder, say hello.

Feeding Frederick's future, one child at a time.

As I was leaving IN THE STREET,
I found these ladies from Blessings in a Backpack,
in front of Paws in the City, on Carroll Street.
They told me about their organization, and how many children in our area do not have adequate nutrition on weekends. These are the children who depend on the Federal Free And Reduced Meal Program as their primary source of nourishment, Monday through Friday.
Please click on a link below the photo, and see how children in our area can be fed.

www.FrederickDemocrats.org

IN THE STREET I found the Frederick Democrats tent,
occupied by Annette Breiling, Tony Soltero, and Gene Stanton.
They made it through the rain, greeting people with a smile
and information about candidate Kathleen Matthews.
She is running for Maryland's 8th Congressional District,
formerly held by Chris Van Hollen.

Annette Breiling, Tony Soltero, & Gene Stanton under the www.FrederickDemocrats.org tent.
As I walked around the square corner area,
I passed someone that reminded me of Chris Matthews, the MSNBC host,
but I thought to myself "Chris Matthews wouldn't be in Frederick."
This evening, when I went to Facebook, boy was I wrong.
Below, I am using a photo, with Kai Hagens permission,
of him with Chris Matthews.

The Hurwitz's

I was fortunate to be able to take a photo of Patty & Jeff Hurwitz.
as they were leaving Colonial Jewelers, for the day.
It is their family owned business, that has been a part of Frederick since 1947.

In 1999, after Patty's diagnosis of breast cancer.
they established the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund
at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
The funds goal is to provide innovative options in the early detection
and treatment of breast cancer.

Rebecca, One of our local artists.

Rebecca Jackson is a volunteer art curator at the
FMH Women's Center Art Gallery at Crestwood.
She is also an art teacher at The Delaplaine Arts Education Center
and Young Rembrandt's in Frederick & Montgomery counties.
She is also one fantastic artist.
She is part of a group of Frederick area plein air painters.
You can see some of her work at this Fine Art America link.
I'm sure the Delaplaine may have some of her work,
either hanging or in the gift shop.

Hi! I'm the face behind Community Of Frederick

Photo by Karen Kosenski at Ballanger Creek Park
I am Susan Ledford.

I am a self tough photographer.
I started taking photographs about the age of 10, when I got my first camera. I never took photography courses, but I did take various other art courses, through out my school years.

I started taking photos of Frederick when I transferred to the Frederick Post Office in 1994.
Due to an accident, I am now retired, but I still live and play in Frederick.

I love the light at sunrise and sunset, as it enhances Frederick. I love the Frederick architecture. I love that there are still farms within the city limits, though these are dwindling. I take photographs of them all, and much more.

I started Community Of Frederick to introduce you to the wonderful people we have in our city. I want to show the people that live, work, visit, and play in Frederick Maryland.

Keep your eyes open, because you never know where you may find me
with my camera, cell phone, or iPad.

Alfie Fisher, An Inspiration

This year I met Alfie Fisher.
I have seen him whenever I attend the Patty Pollatos FUNonomon.
 He is a true inspiration.
He has had a very active life, in Frederick, MD,
including volunteering at Independent Hose Company 1,
being a mentor for younger boys, skateboarding,
dirt biking, fishing, and riding bulls.
In a 2008 auto accident, he lost the use of his legs. That has not put him down.
He is still involved in the International Bull Riders Association,
and teaches bull riding at the J bar W Ranch in Johnsville.
