Turkey Day

The Tuesday before Thanksgiving is always a big day
for those less fortunate in Frederick.
It is the day the Food Bank, operated by the Community Action Agency,
distributes 1000 turkeys with all the fixings.
Wegmans donated the turkeys, and many volunteers packed the grocery bags
with a turkey, boxed stuffing and mashed potatoes,
canned veggies, cranberries, and gravy, and dinner rolls.
Thank you to all the volunteers who put in their time to help others.
Thank you to the staff of Independent Hose who
brought out their canteen truck and distributed hot chocolate,
which helped keep the chill off, on a chilly morning.

Have you been stuck in traffic in downtown Frederick?

It's the middle of the day, and traffic is one lane on Market street.
Why? Why is that DPW truck blocking one lane? What's going on?

Well, I'll tell you.

It's that time of year when you will find either David, or Charlie,
high above the streets of Frederick, putting up the holiday lights.
On this day, David is in the bucket.

But, it is only September, you may ask.
There are a lot of trees on the streets of Frederick,
and it takes a lot of time to put up those lights to make our city pretty
for the holiday season.

Thank you David and Charlie, for all you do to put Frederick in a festive mood!

Fishcake

Mr. Fisher is a Master Barber
at Nimaja's Hair Studio, 932 North East Street.
He is one of the best barbers in Frederick,
though you may know him as Fishcake.
Fishcake is the name a grade school friend gave him, and it stuck.
If you call him by his given name, he may not answer,
or even realize you are talking to him.

Fishcake is available for business on Friday & Saturday,
10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Thank you DPW, for all you do.

Gary & Charles, from the Department of Public Works,
were in Monocacy Village, today.
They were clearing up some of what is left of Blizzard 2016,
before the next snow storm comes our way.
They were clearing the storm drains and driving lanes.

Bruce Derrick

Bruce Derrick opened Crabapples, a traditional New York Deli, in 1988.
It is located at 101 West Patrick Street, and they must serve good food,
because they are always packed with customers,
except yesterday, when Bruce was digging his deli out of the Blizzard of 2016.
Voted Best Deli by Frederick Magazine's Readers Poll for 22 years.

Rocky's Pizza

Have you ever wanted a good New York Pizza?
Esther, Alberto, and J. Carlos can be found at Rocky's Pizza, 200 Amber Drive.
We are always greeted with a smile, and we love their pizza and lasagna.
This is one of Frederick's great Mom & Pop shops.

Frederick Memorial Hospital

I have been spending a lot of time at medical facilities the past few months.
 My husband is fighting cancers,
and his current visit is at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Everyone who works there is so caring and helpful.
They go out of their way to make the patient, and family, comfortable.

FMH is busy rehabbing the building, with many people like these gentlemen, doing the work.

Kayla works in food service. I found her in the elevator, after dinnertime.

Fred's wife, Fran, is in ICU.

Doctors and nurses are taking good care of my husband, Roy.

This is Sadie. I loved her smile,
but she was working so fast, she was a blur in the photo.
