Bruce Derrick

Bruce Derrick opened Crabapples, a traditional New York Deli, in 1988. 

It is located at 101 West Patrick Street, and they must serve good food,

because they are always packed with customers,

except yesterday, when Bruce was digging his deli out of the Blizzard of 2016.

Voted Best Deli by Frederick Magazine's Readers Poll for 22 years.

Allen Chiang

You may recognize Allen Chiang as the owner of China Garden. 

You know China Garden. 
The restaurant at 506 West Patrick Street, Frederick, Maryland.

The one that has won Best Chinese Food in Frederick County, 

by Frederick Magazine and Frederick News Post, for the past 19 years.

Allen seems to remember who everyone, who walks through his door, is.

You may even find him, at your door, making a delivery.

He also is a Frederick American Little League sponsor.

Harriet Johnston Arthur

I reached into my photo collection for todays post. 

This is Harriet Johnston Arthur.

She was known to many as the docent at the Barbara Fritchie House.

She greeted everyone with a smile, and knew her stuff about Barbara Fritchie.

I once saw her slip on a costume and cap, and lean out an upstairs window,

portraying Barbara Fritchie, as tourists took her photo.

Some days, as she waited for people to visit her,

I would find her biding her time painting.

She would display and sell her beautiful watercolors.   

She was truly a beautiful person, and I miss her.

Harriet Johnston Arthur 

(September 6, 1920 - July 8, 2009) 

Harriet’s remarkable life started on September 6, 1920 in Shelbina, MO and ended on July 8, 2009 in Shepherdstown, WV. Married for 49 years to Norman Robert Arthur, deceased. She is survived by (2) children, Norman Johnston Arthur and Robert James Arthur. Daughter Elizabeth Anne Arthur deceased 1964 and (3) surviving grandchildren (Timothy John Arthur, Victoria Claire Arthur and Randolph James Arthur) Her career encompassed the last 60 years as a teacher, decorator and docent in Ohio, New York, and Silver Spring, MD with the last 20 years teaching and retiring in Shepherdstown, WV. She was the docent at the Barbara Fritchie house in Frederick for 16 years. As an artist, her work was displayed in galleries around the area and has won several awards. A memorial service will be held at the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church on August 8, 2009 at 11:00am with a reception to follow at the fellowship hall.

She will be missed by many.
